Mayor Small Champions Local Growth During Small Business Month in Atlantic City
Mayor Marty Small, Sr. led the charge this May as Atlantic City celebrated Small Business Month—a powerful affirmation of the city’s commitment to economic empowerment, neighborhood revitalization, and inclusive entrepreneurship.
Recognizing the essential role that small businesses play in the city’s economy and culture, Mayor Small formally proclaimed May as Small Business Month in Atlantic City, aligning with the national recognition and launching a series of bold initiatives designed to support and elevate local entrepreneurs.
“Small businesses are the heartbeat of Atlantic City,” said Mayor Small. “They represent our hustle, our resilience, and our community pride. This month—and every month—we’re committed to helping them thrive.”
A Month of Action and Impact
Under the leadership of the Planning & Development Department, led by Bruce Weekes and Pam Fields, the City rolled out a comprehensive slate of initiatives aimed at boosting visibility, foot traffic, and access to resources:
Free Saturday Parking (May 17):
To encourage weekend shopping and dining, the City waived parking fees at meters and kiosks citywide (excluding beach blocks), making it easier for residents and visitors to support small businesses.
‘Keep it Local’ Campaign:
This grassroots initiative urged community members to shop, dine, and engage with local establishments—culminating in the Great Day Atlantic City event, a celebration of the city’s diverse and dynamic entrepreneurial spirit.
Atlantic Avenue Business Incentive Package (In Progress):
In a major move to attract new investment, the City began developing a targeted incentive package to revitalize Atlantic Avenue, one of the city's most critical commercial corridors. The plan aims to simplify startup processes and foster long-term business success.
Expanded Community Partnerships:
The City deepened collaboration with neighborhood-based groups such as Inlet CDC, Midtown AC CDC, Ducktown AC, Chelsea EDC, and MBCA AC—aligning local goals with the administration’s broader economic development strategy.
Small Business Academy Programming:
Through the Atlantic City Small Business Academy, entrepreneurs received free training, pitch support, mentorship, and business plan development tools—creating a pipeline for future local leaders.
Laying the Foundation for Long-Term Growth
More than a celebration, Small Business Month 2025 was a catalyst—showcasing how smart governance and community collaboration can drive sustainable economic development. Mayor Small’s administration continues to prioritize investments that build a stronger, more self-sufficient Atlantic City—one that champions local talent and supports small business success at every level.
“We’re not just talking about supporting small businesses—we’re taking action,” said Mayor Small. “Whether it’s waiving parking fees, streamlining permits, or offering hands-on training, we’re building a local economy that works for everyone.”
From storefronts to start-ups, Atlantic City’s small business community is rising—and Mayor Marty Small is making sure they have the tools, resources, and support to lead the way.
