Mayor Small Officially Opens Atlantic City’s Summer 2025 Season with “Opening of the Sea”
Mayor Marty Small, Sr. Mayor Marty Small, Sr. officially ushered in Atlantic City’s Summer 2025 season with the beloved “Opening of the Sea” ceremony—reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tradition, public safety, and economic vitality.
Held over Memorial Day Weekend, the symbolic tradition featured Mayor Small driving a giant wooden key into the sand outside Resorts Hotel Casino, declaring the beaches open and inviting locals and visitors to enjoy all that Atlantic City has to offer.
“This summer is going to be one of the biggest we’ve had in a very, very, very long time,” said Mayor Small, addressing an energized crowd along the iconic shoreline. “Atlantic City is ready—for the people, by the people.”
The event brought together leaders from across public safety and hospitality, including Police Chief James Sarkos, Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Scott Evans, Beach Patrol Chief Steve Downey, Public Safety Director Sean Riggin, and Resorts President & CEO Mark Giannantonio. Together, they echoed the Mayor’s message: Atlantic City is prepared, welcoming, and open for business.
Mayor Small credited the season’s momentum to strong partnerships between City Hall and the local casino industry, as well as the frontline workers dedicated to keeping Atlantic City safe, clean, and thriving.
“This isn’t just about opening the beach—it’s about opening our city to opportunity, joy, and shared experiences,” Mayor Small added. “We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make sure this summer is not only fun, but also safe and successful for everyone.”
